Paris
is perhaps, the most glamorous and romantic
city in Europe. Instant
pleasure can be had walking along the grand
avenues that radiate from the Arc de Triomphe,
or exploring the narrow lanes of the Latin
Quarter.
During
February the climate can be pretty chilly
here with average temperatures of just 7C
from only three hours of daily sunshine.

Few
cities can compete with the thousands of cafes,
bars and restaurants that line every street and
boulevard. Paris is a city of food, drink and people-watching.
The
Louvre, with one of the world's greatest art collections,
sits on the Seine. The ultra-modern Glass Pyramid,
illuminated at night, is strikingly juxtaposed against
the regal splendour of the palace itself.
The
Pompidou Centre, with its inside-out architecture,
has ever-changing shows in its exhibition spaces,
and a permanent collection of 20th century art.
Outside, street performers entertain the crowds.
And there are many more: the Musee d'Orsay, with
a wide range of exhibitions, and the Musees Rodin
and Picasso, dedicated to the individual artists.
The
nucleus of Paris is the Ile de la Cite. Here stands
the majestic Notre Dame cathedral and the Sainte-Chapelle
church, surrounded by the Palais de Justice. There
is also the famous daily flower market.
And who could forget the Eiffel Tower? It stands
at 300 metres tall and is over 100 years old.
There are three viewing platforms and on a nice
day, from the top, you can see fantastic views of
the whole of Paris and the distant suburbs.
At
night, Paris comes alive. With entertainment ranging
from Opera to Moulin Rouge cabaret, there really
is something for everyone to enjoy. Paris is a dynamic
city with a cultural paradise.
